Sparklehorse In Memoriam

(download)

This is a bummer. Mark Linkous, the man who released albums under the name Sparklehorse, killed himself yesterday. I had always heard about his serious drug addiction and depression issues but they were usually the kind of reports that went like "Mark seems to have cleaned himself up since he hit rock bottom while recording Good Morning Spider and is doing better than ever." So this is an unpleasant surprise.

Anyway, I have always loved Sparklehorse's 2001 album It's A Wonderful Life and the latest album Dark Night of the Soul, a collaboration with David Lynch, Danger Mouse and a bunch of indie music luminaries, is really good too. I don't think he ever made a bad album, really, so I'll post all of the albums that I currently have on my computer, listed in the order of which I prefer most. Well, actually I just remembered the In the Fishtank album he released last year, I wasn't too into that one, but maybe it was Fennesz's fault.

As always, click on the album cover to download the whole album.

It's A Wonderful Life, 2001

Dark Night of the Soul, 2010

Good Morning Spider, 1997
